Those who often switch back and forth between mobile and stationary use with a notebook often use a docking station and a matching external monitor to increase productivity in the workplace.

The HP EliteDisplay E243 combines the two devices mentioned above and is therefore rightly marketed as a docking monitor.

This is a compact 24-inch monitor that comes with additional connectors and can even charge the connected notebook. And all of this runs over a single cable connection.

This monitor from HP is characterized by its wide variety of connections and excellent ergonomic flexibility as the ideal office monitor.

With very narrow bezels, working with two monitors is also much more pleasant. The IPS panel provides stylish color reproduction, but is much too slow for use as a gaming monitor.

The connections also show that the screen would like to be used in the office: even the older VGA for old graphics cards is on board so that the HP can be connected to almost any computer.

From the outside, the HP EliteDisplay E243 is barely distinguishable from a conventional business monitor.

The matte silver design is kept quite subtle and the 23.8-inch panel is surrounded by very narrow bezels on the sides and top. Only at the bottom is the edge a bit thicker.

The base is also coated in silver and allows swivel (+45 / – 45 degrees) and tilt (+23 / – 5 degrees) as well as setup in swivel mode.

If required, it can also be completely removed and replaced with a 100mm VESA compatible bracket. HP installed an IPS panel with a resolution of 1080p and 60 Hertz with a response time of 7 ms and a brightness of 250 nits.

The down-facing ports on the back are available to the connected mobile device once connected via USB-C to the HP EliteDisplay E243 Monitor.

Specifically, that would be: HDMI 1.4 in, DisplayPort out, VGA in, audio in, Both Ethernet and USB-C in and USB-B in. There are two USB-A ports on the back and two USB-A ports are also available.

Ports and an audio plug are installed on the left side. Very nice is the pop-up webcam, which can be removed from the device if necessary and remains hidden.

However, it only has a 720p resolution and is not compatible with Windows Hello’s facial recognition feature.

The HP EliteDisplay E243 display has all the connections you are used to from your dock: 4x USB-A 3.1, audio in/out, VGA in, HDMI in, DisplayPort out and RJ45.

The integrated pop-up webcam protects against attacks and video conferences can also be set up quickly.
