The HP OfficeJet 8020 comes with its slim, simple design, which is the least “deteriorated”. Nevertheless, this device is an all-in-one multifunction device with functions such as printing, scanning, copying and faxing. the duplex reversing unit in the ADF.

This means that you can scan and copy on both sides, but there is no dual duplex installed, which means that you have to turn the page first so that the back can be scanned – and that takes time. Print speeds are specified at 22 ipm (black & white) and 18 ipm (colour).

The paper output is limited to a maximum of 60 sheets and has no sensor to detect when the maximum has been reached. this means that the machine will continue to print, which can lead to paper jams and the like. Also on this HP OfficeJet 8020 model, only the “small”, colored 2.7-inch touchscreen is installed.

Furthermore, the very fast duplex printing function is no longer available, which has been replaced by a slower mechanism that requires manual turning of the sheet. Printing from a USB stick is no longer possible with this model. Only pictures from the internal memory can be processed.

These HP printers come with PCL 6 and Postscript, but not with this series. Only PCL 3 is used here, which allows cost savings for the built-in processor. HP OfficeJet 8020 is also a multifunction printer (with integrated fax), which will be equipped with pigment ink.

The print unit and ADF have a duplex function, with dual-duplex built into the scanning unit, eliminating the need for the document to be scanned – saving time. The newly designed housing contains two paper cassettes with a capacity of 250 pages each.

With this new generation of printers, HP puts a special emphasis on ‘smart jobs’. The app, which is available for Android, iOS Windows 10 and Windows 11, allows you to create and sync shortcuts and macros with the printer.

This means that a scanned document can, for example, be made searchable, stored locally, or sent using OCR components. HP explains in an HP OfficeJet 8020 manual support document how it is set up, that it is currently only available in English.
