A 550-sheet paper cassette (up to 256 gsm) and a 100-sheet bypass tray are standard. The paper can weigh up to 300 gsm. Paper options can be added as a modular system.
On one side there would be two more 550 cassettes, which could then be supplemented with a stand-alone, a version with two additional trays or a large feeder for up to 2,700 sheets.
In the maximum expansion phase, 4,450 sheets from five feeders are possible. Compared to its little brother, HP has also doubled the paper tray and designed it for up to 500 sheets.
A sorter is not integrated or available. Automatic double-sided printing is standard, but borderless printing is fundamentally not.
Designed for up to 50,000 pages per month, the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M856dn’s print unit can withstand a 5x peak load and offers significantly faster printing at a fast 56 ipm.
The speed specification applies to both black and white and color printing. Thanks to the internal “buffering” of the printed front side, there is no loss of time with double-sided printing.
The laser printer must have a native resolution of 1,200 dpi. The non-expandable main memory is 1.5 GB and can receive print jobs locally or from the network.
Optionally, a hard disk can be connected for intermediate storage when there is a particularly high volume.
Wireless communication is only possible with a WiFi adapter, which is available at extra cost. However, Airprint and the common standards including app access are also possible when connected via a (Gigabit) Ethernet.
PCL standards 5 and 6, as well as an emulated Postscript as well as native PDF are directly supported by the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M856dn. The latter can also be put on paper directly from the USB host connection.
