All variants of the Deskjet 3630 series are intended for the entry-level segment where printing, scanning and copying are moderate and there is no interest in fax. In addition, all models participate in the HP Instant Ink program, which is designed to reduce printing and copying costs.
The capacity of the single paper feeder is also a bit tight at 60 sheets. After all, the Deskjet 3630 pulls the paper in from the back and thus also processes thicker media.
The datasheet gives 300 grams per square meter as the maximum thickness. With only 25 sheets, the paper tray is thin. The control menu has a text display that shows the number of copies.
A maximum of five copies are possible – that is relatively few. In addition, there are only buttons marked with symbols – including separate buttons for black and white and color copies.
The HP Deskjet 3634 multifunction printer works at a leisurely pace, but proves to be a reliable partner. The multifunction printer is not suitable for printing, scanning and copying for high throughput.
Even if you don’t care about the pace, the page prices are too high for that. The terrain of the printer is occasional home use. The heart of this printer is the print unit, which works with 302 series combination cartridges.
Here the cartridge and print head form a unit. With every cartridge change you not only get new ink, but also a new print head. This improves the print quality, but at the expense of consumption.
If the tri-color cartridge reports that one color is empty, it may not automatically apply to the other two colors. When in doubt, you are forced to throw away ink so that the device continues to work properly. The HP Deskjet 3634 takes its time with every task.
It takes just under a minute to print ten pages of text at 55 seconds, but it takes a relatively long time to print the same number of color PDF pages at 4:48 minutes.
As usual with HP, a scan preview takes almost as long as the final color scan. When printing, it is noticeable that the ink coverage is high, even when printing in normal mode. This is at the expense of ink consumption.
The sharpness of the letters is good, the coloring is harmonious, the colors themselves are warm if a little dark. However, this is more a matter of software than hardware. After all, the device works reliably in every discipline.
In addition to the standard cartridges, there are also XL versions with a higher range. But even with that we charge a high page price of 5.4 cents, especially for the black and white page. The color side comes in at 7.8 cents – there are cheaper alternatives too.
But the power consumption of the printer is low. The HP Deskjet 3634 Multifunction Printer is tailored for entry-level users. It brings USB and WLAN as connections.
There’s also Wi-Fi Direct to connect directly to the device without going through a router.
The combination printer Mopria (Android), Apple masters the mobile printing standard AirPrint (iOS) and its own HP ePrint. The machine can only manually print on the front and back of a sheet (duplex).
