HP provides Deskjet series multifunction devices for home use. They are cheap to buy, but usually focus only on the basic functions of printing, scanning and copying. You will not find extras here in most cases.
The manufacturer also has a series of models, the Deskjet Plus series, which slightly exceed the Deskjet devices. HP Deskjet Plus 4132 – the plus refers to an automatic document feeder for up to 35 sheets and a mobile faxing function.
Among the entry-level multifunction printers, the printer is certainly a special model thanks to the automatic document feeder. There is nothing wrong with the idea of mobile faxing, even if it is not clear what the costs will be after the free period.
In general, the device has definitely earned the “plus” in the name. However, the HP model cannot be recommended. Because there are a number of criticisms that must be accepted:
The borderless printing is completely absent, the capacity of the paper compartment is mediocre and the scanning unit does not digitize to A4 format, but clearly cuts the original beforehand.
The printer has a white housing with a relatively powerful automatic document feeder (ADF). It gives the multifunction printer a stable appearance, but at the same time requires more space in height at the installation site.
In addition to the ADF, the plus in the printer’s model name refers to mobile fax. It is part of the HP Smart App, which strictly speaking does not require a printer with scanning capability. The delivery does not include a driver CD for installation.
Rather, the manufacturer’s preferred commissioning is heavily focused on the HP Smart app. You will inevitably end up there if you follow the information sheet that comes with the HP Deskjet Plus 4132 Multifunction Printer.
The app can be used to control the device with both Windows 10 computers and mobile devices with Android and iOS operating systems. However, the HP app has one drawback: you don’t get a real Twain scanner driver this way.
In other words, you will only receive the complete driver package if you arrange it yourself via the manufacturer’s support website. Because even through Windows 10’s automatic driver detection, the system only installs a rudimentary Wia driver to scan.
Via the support page you first load the installation tool “HP Easy Start” on your computer, which you can then use to install the full driver package – a big detour and not for everyone.
Because the WLAN module in the multifunction printer supports dual band. This allows the HP Deskjet Plus 4132 to be connected to 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi networks – this is practical and not obvious.
