The HP ENVY 5052 is almost certainly designed for smaller families who only occasionally need the services of a home printer.

This wireless all-in-one printer has a sleek black exterior and doesn’t take up too much desk space because it’s not particularly large. The top of the printer can be opened for scanning.

Keep this in mind when considering where to place the printer. The printer has a touchscreen display that registers finger touches fairly reliably, although we’ve seen better touchscreens that are more sensitive without causing control issues.

Currently, you have to press pretty hard for the touchscreen to register an action. It’s a bit annoying, but not unusable. The printer’s paper tray can hold approximately 100 pages.

This is sufficient for most domestic purposes, although industrial offices or shared printers usually have larger compartments to meet the printing needs of an entire office.

But for a family printer, 100 sheets is fine. Most prints are made at a resolution of approximately 1200 x 1200 dpi in black and white or 4800 x 1200 dpi for color printing.

This is quite normal for printers of this size and price range, although we’ve found that photos and color graphics look much better than regular black text prints.

In fact, the black text printed by the printer tends to smear or fade depending on the status of your ink cartridge. Overall, this HP ENVY 5052 printer can produce homework-quality pages.

But you want something more expensive and higher quality for more professional documents or legal documents.

The printer can print black and white or mono prints at about 10 pages per minute and color photos at about seven pages per minute. This is not very fast, but not exactly slow either.

We think it’s appropriate given the price and the quality of the color photos. Just approach this printer with the expectation that it will produce pages like an industrial copier.

The print quality definitely decreases as you put more information on the page. Color photos can take a few minutes to print, and a page with black text and color graphics can take four minutes or more.

This is definitely slower than many other home printers. The HP ENVY 5052 printer also has borderless printing options and a setting that enables automatic two-sided printing.

This makes it easy to use, even if you haven’t used printers’ finer technical options before. Not many personalization options can be checked on the small screen, but this printer is really only intended for small household use.

Naturally, this printer uses the HP instant ink program. Ink can be expensive, regardless of the type of printer. The instant ink program works as long as your printer is connected to the Internet.

The HP ENVY 5052 printer has built-in WiFi and the AirPrint function, which makes it relatively easy to connect your office iPad or iPhone to the printer.

This is very useful for a home office or a shared printer for your children or partner. Everyone in the house can connect their device to the printer and work on their project from their own room or workplace.

The Wi-Fi connectivity is quite reliable. There is, of course, an integrated USB port in case you prefer to connect the printer to your computer with a cable.
