The HP OfficeJet 5741 already carries the office to its name and prints excellent texts and documents as expected. The black is very strong and the texts are pleasantly sharp. Only the relatively quiet printing speed is disturbing.
When it comes to printing photos and graphics, the device impresses with its very natural color reproduction. There is even a separate compartment for photo paper. Colors are very strong by default.
If that doesn’t suit you, you can use color profiles to make improvements – a great achievement for an office printer. The scan quality is very high, even though colored documents often have a slight red cast.
With copies there is a small loss of quality, which is noticeable in color areas and backgrounds. For an office printer, the cost of printing in black and white is quite high.
In the home office and occasional private business printing, this is still justifiable, especially if you value high print quality. The yield of the black cartridge is relatively low at 600 pages.
Color printing is also quite expensive with the printer. Particularly important here: the color cartridges are only available as a combination cartridge and not individually.
In addition, with a combination cartridge, one color is usually faster than the other, so you have to replace the entire cartridge faster, even if only one color is empty.
In terms of printing and scanning equipment, the HP OfficeJet 5741 is absolutely exemplary. Double-sided printing, scanning via flatbed or automatic document feeder and cut-sheet feeding in one device are excellent for this price range.
Only the duplex scan remains on the wish list. When it comes to the interfaces, hardly any wishes remain unfulfilled.
Direct printing via USB or memory card, network via cable or WLAN and even modern interfaces such as NFC and cloud connection have made their appearance in the device.
The paper tray averages 125 sheets for an inkjet printer. As an office printer something more practical would have been useful. According to buyers’ opinion, the paper feed is somewhat unreliable for photo paper.
The installation of the HP OfficeJet 5741 is quick and almost self-explanatory. What is unpleasant, however, is that during the installation various personal data such as the zip code and the number of employees in the company are requested without the possibility to skip this step.
It doesn’t have to be! The operation is successful, only a few annoying little things interfere with everyday life.
For example, advertisements for HP products regularly appear on the screen and some operations, such as scan to e-mail, take a long time.
