The HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556xh from the PageWide Enterprise series has the fastest print speeds – typical of the HP Enterprise models – but, unlike the 586 series multifunction devices, is limited to pure printing with no scanning or copying functionality.

A little luxury also works well in the office. That’s why HP has not only given this device a modern, clear design, but also a generously sized 10.9 cm (4.3 inch) color screen. That the operation is faster and more convenient than on the reduced displays of the smaller PageWide printers is no surprise, but it is pleasantly noticeable.

The fact that the pages with the HP PageWide printers reach the output tray faster than with comparable inkjet and laser devices is due to the new technology, PageWide is based on ink printing, but the performance is closer to the laser device.

HP has promised a top speed of no less than 75 pages per minute in office mode. Initially in ISO mode, which promises at least 50 pages per minute. And it holds it without major startup problems, after 7 seconds the first sheet lands in the output tray.

The quality is and remains impeccable – with a resolution of up to 2,400 x 1,200 dpi, there’s nothing to complain about.

The HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556xh can increase its speed even further: in Office mode, it proves that even 75 pages per minute are realistic. Incidentally, a mode that is often equated with the classic design mode, but has a significantly better quality and is usually completely sufficient in everyday work.

This also shows how richly colored and powerful the typical HP pigment inks cover and adhere to the paper. Experience has shown that the printed image with water-soluble inks (dye inks) is often less sharp and accurate.

The fact that the Enterprise series features double-sided printing as standard is certainly one of the highlights. Because even with double-sided printing, the device accelerates and continuously delivers top quality!

The highest yield cartridges promise up to 16,000 pages in color and up to 20,000 pages in black and white. As a pure printer, the HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556xh should cover a wide range of media. And it also lives up to that expectation, from labels to brochures, from extra heavy to light paper.

And another special feature stands out: the paper – in contrast to the classic inkjet – ends up in the output tray with the printed side facing down. Anyone who does not necessarily want to share everything that goes to the printer with their office colleagues will undoubtedly welcome this.

HP has not skimped on security tools or central management features, which benefits the printer when used on the network. Here too, the proven management software HP Web JetAdmin ensures efficient central control of the entire printer fleet – at no extra cost.

The HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556xh initially has all the basics that ensure comfortable working and the highest possible connectivity, wireless and wired connections (even integrated Gigabit Ethernet) and mobile options such as HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint. Larger offices will benefit, especially when there is a lot of work and team members with different equipment.
