Operation on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479dw device is intuitive thanks to the lavishly designed touchscreen. The paper compartment holds about 300 A4 sheets, which should accommodate larger workgroups.
With a very high print volume or a large number of users, the rather average print speed can become an obstacle.
An automatic document feeder is available for scans and copies, but it only works on one side. According to the technical data, the pressure unit is taken from the previous series.
The nominal resolution for printing is 600 dpi color at a speed of 27 ipm. When duplexing, the devices can still produce 24 ipm. This corresponds to twelve full sheets.
A 250-sheet paper cassette and an additional 50-sheet bypass tray (up to 176 gsm) are installed as standard.
Another 550-sheet magazine (CF404A) can optionally be mounted under the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479dw printer. Paper from the cassettes is limited to grammages in the range of 60 to 163 gsm.
All common paper formats, such as A4, A5 and A6, can be printed from both the cassette and the manual feed. The flatbed scanner is based on a CIS scan line with an optical resolution of 1,200 dpi.
The models with fax also have a dual-duplex ADF with an additional scan line for simultaneous front and back reading of up to 50 originals at once. Only the printer (without fax) is equipped with a single-sided ADF.
All multifunction models come standard with a USB, a Gigabit Ethernet connection and a USB host on the back.
The models with a “w” after the model number can also transmit wirelessly in networks on the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz frequency bands and can also be addressed directly via Wifi-Direct.
In this mode, a fast connection is possible via Bluetooth LE (or Smart). The standards Airprint, Google Cloudprint, Mopria and the use of the app are possible with all variants, provided they are connected to a network.
The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479dw printer is controlled via PCL 5c, 6, Postscript or directly with PDF documents.
Microsoft Word or PowerPoint data (from Office 2003) can also be transferred directly to paper via the USB host connection.
