The LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601dn is designed for use in workgroups of five to ten users. The nominal number of pages remains unchanged at 43 pages per minute.

This should still be sufficient for the intended application areas; top speed is usually not the bottleneck there.

Those who already use the previous devices will quickly master the control panel on the printer, because no significant changes have been made.

The status is shown on a four-line LC display and also via three status LEDs. Four buttons complete the control panel. The printer has a ten-digit keypad. This allows users to authenticate themselves, for example with pull printing for secure printing.

The standard paper cassette holds up to 500 sheets, the multi-purpose tray holds 100 sheets or 50 transparencies or ten envelopes. The multi-purpose feeder handles media up to 200 gsm.

A maximum of 120 g/m² is allowed from the paper cassette. As paper options, Hewlett-Packard offers additional input trays with 500-sheet or 1,500-sheet capacity.

The device leaves the factory with two paper feeds, a total of up to six are supported for a maximum total capacity of 3600 sheets. Up to 500 sheets of paper can be ejected face down into the standard top tray.

The rear cover allows you to store 100 sheets face up. HP offers a variety of paper filing options for the HP LaserJet Enterprise M601dn.

This includes a five-compartment shelf with a capacity of 500 sheets so that each user can be allocated a compartment.

The HP printer can be offered through an integrated Gbit Ethernet print server. It supports all common protocols. Like some newer HP models, the printer also supports in-house ePrint technology.

This means that print jobs from mobile (email) devices, especially smartphones, tablets and notebooks, can be sent directly to the ePrint-enabled printer.

Always provided that the printer is connected to the network and has Internet access. The local connection is possible via USB 2.0.

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M601dn also offers a USB host port, but more on that later. As mentioned above, the printer has a host USB port. Users can use this to run files directly from USB flash media.

The USB connection is located slightly below the control panel on the front of the device. On delivery, this connection is covered with a plastic cover.

In addition, the function of the gate is deactivated in the factory configuration. It only needs to be activated by the administrator in the Embedded Web Server or on the device itself.

The LaserJet’s PCL driver isn’t much of a mystery. The factory configuration defaults to duplex printing. The options are divided into seven tabs.

Preferences can be saved under print links and called up accordingly. This has been kept relatively simple so that recurring tasks can be quickly archived.
