For a small business 4-in-1 laser, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fn, measuring 40 x 39 x 29 cm with all shutters closed, is a fairly compact printer. It has a solid design, is quite heavy and the good quality plastics used are reassuring in terms of the finish.
The articulated plastic arm that acts as a paper tray is also strong, while sheet positioning strips are provided on the two paper feeds. As such, the lower tray can hold up to 150 standard sheets of 80 gsm (a comfortable capacity, but not necessarily huge for a laser model) and the automatic document feeder accepts up to 35 sheets.
This is linked to a flatbed scanner that can digitize all kinds of books in addition to single sheets. Yet it is noticed by going around the product that there is no access door to intervene in the event of a paper jam. It will therefore be necessary to remove the Phillips screwdriver and remove some plastic panels to access the paper feed rollers.
On the contrary, the toner of the printer is very easy to replace, since it is enough to open the cover at the level of the paper exit to access it. On the scanner side, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fn can scan documents fed through the automatic feeder up to 300 x 300 dpi, and documents placed on the flatbed up to 600 x 600 dpi in color and 1200 x 1200 dpi in black and white.
This scanner is fast because it only takes 8 seconds to scan a document at 100 dpi and 11 seconds to scan a 10 x 15 photo at 300 dpi. Operating the product is simple, with all controls grouped on a small 6.9 cm diagonal color touchscreen. A readable screen, but with perfect responsiveness.
All connections of the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fn are grouped at the back left and consist of a USB Type-B port, an Ethernet port, telephone connections for fax and a power connection.
The power supply is integrated in the chassis. Wi-Fi connectivity is, of course, present, with support for Wi-Fi Direct and major hosted printing services such as AirPrint or Google Cloud Print.
