Designed based on the features of the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a, an entry-level monochrome laser printer that stands out for its great compactness and high-quality graphics, the printer is also equipped with an A4 scanner.

A good alternative for all self-employed and very small businesses who cannot ignore this feature, or are satisfied with the photo sensor on their smartphone and the HP Smart mobile application to scan documents.

So decorated with a scanning platform, the printer obviously has increased dimensions and weight (360 x 264 x 197 mm for 5.4 kg), but it remains relatively compact for a laser model.

You will find a mini LCD screen (non-touch) that allows you to control the number of copies to be made, as well as buttons for scanning or copying a document.

The same applies to the lower tray, which can hold up to 150 sheets of plain paper (80 g/m²).

Without an actual flap to block the suit, it reminds us that the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a is an entry-level monochrome laser printer.

On the other hand, the digitizing plate is pleasant to handle. The top cover opens very easily – there’s no risk of accidentally opening the print drum – and it features easy-to-read measurement markings.

If the printer remains monochrome, the scanner can scan in color. Although limited to a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi, it provides very good results, with highly contrasted documents and well-reproduced tones.

The scanner is also quite fast: waiting 8 seconds to file a document at 100 dpi and 11 seconds to scan a 10 x 15 photo at 300 dpi.

It took us exactly the same time to copy a document in black and white, by pressing the appropriate key. The result is perfectly clear and legible. The build quality is quite correct.

Although the chassis is made of plastic, the assembly and finish show no particular defects and the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a printer gives a good impression of solidity.

Its compact size requires, however, it is satisfied with a connection reduced to the bare minimum. So you will find a classic USB 2.0 Type-B port without a wireless connection.

All in all, the LaserJet Pro MFP M28a from HP is a black and white laser printer with a copy and scan unit that does not have a WLAN function and is advertised as extra compact.

It is mainly aimed at those who do not have the space for large multi-function lasers, but still want to enjoy the general benefits of a laser printer.

The printer prints text pages at a speed of up to 18 pages per second – ideal for offices. However, office use contradicts the low paper capacity of only 150 sheets.
