HP offers models of the same construction through different sales channels or side by side. This can be recognized by the last digit in the model number.
This printer is currently also available with a turquoise accent color. The HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e office printer does not show major weaknesses in any of the disciplines, but it also does not offer outstanding features.
Essentially positive are the good drivers for printing and scanning, as well as the decent “Smart App”, which is available for almost all systems (except Windows 7 or Linux).
The advantage of the ink printer is the very good photo print quality, which, in contrast to the laser comrades, can even be borderless. The touch screen on the device is quite small.
A numeric keypad is available on the touch screen only when required for an input. So-called smart tasks can be used to save repetitive tasks and activate them with one click.
The operation of the device itself is somewhat clumsy due to the small display. The top model of the 9000 series comes with two paper cassettes and a high speed document feeder with double duplex function.
Specialty media, thick photo paper or envelopes can be presented in one of the two paper cassettes. A second scan line is available for this. There are no deviations in the print quality.
Both text and graphics can be printed in high quality with smudge-resistant results on plain paper. There are only problems with very fine details.
For normal requirements, even photo printing should suffice – these can also be borderless, from postcard size to A4.
While competitors offer similarly powerful printers with ink tanks, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e relies entirely on conventional cartridges.
The range could be a bit higher and the follow-up costs a bit lower. However, the test results are within a moderate range. The “Instant Ink” subscription is cheaper, especially if you print a lot in color.
When installing the printer using the “Smart App”, which is enforced by HP, you should consider whether you are participating in the “HP+” program.
If you agree, you commit (irrevocably) to the permanent use of the original ink and to keep the HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e device online in the meantime.
However, offline phases of more than two weeks were no reason to shut down the printer – there were some warnings. There are also some models without the “e” in stores.
These cannot currently be used with “HP+” and can generally be used without restrictions.
