At first glance, the HP Smart Tank Plus 559 is a classic printer. The control panel consists of a 5.89 cm (2.2”) monochrome touchscreen. The latter, not tiltable and with poor viewing angles, is much too small to navigate comfortably.
Above all, this touchscreen responds quite poorly to touch and can therefore be difficult to use. Physical keys to navigate between menus would have been much more practical. However, there are transparent slots on the front that allow you to see the ink level of the four reservoirs.
As with other ink tank printers, the installation of this Smart Tank includes filling the tanks. In the case of the HP, it is also necessary to install the printheads, but access is not very easy. So the user hardly has to do anything other than place the test sheet on the scanner glass.
The printer is quite large (44.9 x 37.3 x 19.8 cm). In addition, you will need about 10 cm more at the top, 10 cm more at the back, and 20 cm more in front of the printer to feed and eject the paper.
The printer’s only paper feed, with a capacity of 100 sheets, is located at the rear. The automatic document feeder has a capacity of 35 sheets and the paper output tray has a capacity of 30 sheets.
The included ink prints up to 12,000 black and white pages or up to 8,000 color pages. The HP Smart Tank Plus 559 offers fast scans and copies.
For example, it takes just 7 seconds to scan an A4 document at 100 dpi black and white and 10 seconds to scan a 10 x 15 cm photo at 300 dpi in color. Copies take 8 seconds for a monochrome document and 17 seconds for color.
The good print quality of the printer in the photo is also confirmed for office use, with very good quality renderings. Otherwise, connectivity is kept to a minimum with only the presence of a USB-B port.
The HP Smart Tank Plus 559 also manages Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct printing. Unfortunately, it does not have an automatic two-sided mode.
