The HP Smart Tank Plus 555 inkjet printer with wireless all-in-one technology is a multifunction printer with ink tank technology. This means that the ink is not passed through cartridges as usual, but is filled into special tanks on the outside of the device.
Filling the ink tanks went without a hitch for us. The supplied bottles have a drip stop in the lid so that they can be turned upside down and the ink can be refilled without any problems. Only placing the printheads is a bit freaky because the top cover cannot be opened on this model.
The look at the HP Smart Tank Plus 555 manual then explained all further steps very clearly and simply. Refilling the tanks was quick and the fingers remained mostly clean. It became more problematic when installing the printheads.
When installing the printheads, make sure the two are pushed in far enough. If you do this too carefully, the printheads will not connect properly and the blue latch will not close. The printheads are seated properly when the top edges are horizontal.
During the subsequent installation, the printer prompted us to install the HP SMART app or, alternatively, the HP Easy Start software, which can be downloaded from the website. The printer cannot be set up without an Internet connection, as no CD-ROM is included.
The HP Smart Tank Plus 555 has proven itself very well in daily use. The print speed is sometimes a bit slow, but this does not affect us negatively. The print quality is excellent and the price per printed page is unbeatably low.
Copying in color as well as in black and white is also possible with us without any problems. Once integrated into the WLAN, the printer will be found by any device, even if the HP SMART app is not installed.
There are unfortunately two drawbacks: there is the size of the paper tray, because with a maximum of 100 pages this device turned out to be a bit on the small side.
